The Challenge of being Vegan

Homemade Jerk Vegetables and Rice n Peas

Food, the buying, prepping and cooking of it can be such a pain in the patootey.  Much of our every day is spent thinking, eating and preparing food.  At least in our household full of growing boys to men.

From growing our own to teaching the boys to cook, I am very conscious of the importance of understanding what goes into our bodies and when the opportunity arose to take on a lifestyle change for the purpose of work, I snapped up the offer.  I had an excuse, an event, motivation.

Here is a note of my thoughts and feelings toward a vegan diet and what I learnt.

How to cook Bajan Fishcakes

Vegan Warm Chard & Kale Salad

I am not a food writer, but as eating is something we do more than most things, food tends to be a large part of our lives.

I have the honour of being a committee member of a pocket park in my neighbourhood.  Harlesden Town Garden is a sad rag to welcoming provider story.  What once was a space regulated by prostitutes, drug addicts, dog fighters and ne'er do wells, is now a wonderfully used playground, picnic area, sports cage and productive allotment beds.  One of these allotment bed holders was kind enough, during a local event, to gift me a large bag of own grown, organic chard.
